Automotive X Prize News: Feb 3rd, 2009

I've been collecting some good news for a bit - I was hoping to write about most of these individually, but given my extreme busyness lately I think it's better just to post them. Learn about Bright Automotive, a challenge from Avion, troubles at Tesla, see a video of Kinetic Vehicles (pictured), and more!

Detroit 2009: Automotive X Prize status report. Brief interview with Cristin Lindsay, she explains the new rules, etc

Aptera exposed - pics

Tesla's plants for an EV factory in San Jose Fizzle. Money woes are delaying the factory, and may force a site relocation as well.

Avion posts Exhibition Challenge. Once again Avion is going to try to break the Guniness World Record for fuel mileage, by driving from Canada to Mexico, and they have invited other teams to join them on their journey late this summer.

RMI promises 100 MPG car with 30 mile EV range, that being Amory Lovin's Rocky Mountain Institute - long time bastion of the hypercar. They've created a spin out called Bright Automotive. It's about time!!

Kinetic Vehicle video - nice long video interview with Jack. He says if he wins the Automotive X Prize it will be a sad day - because that means his small underfunded team would be at the vanguard of innovation. What a great attitude!

Brazilian company Maxi-Eco to enter Auto X Prize - another team based on a locost, like Kinetic Vehicles. They have some kind of flex-fuel axial engine.

Aerocivic website. I've talked on here about the aerocivic before, now it has a wonderful website with tons of information on what the owner did and why.
