Kinetic Vehicles: MAX
Jack McCornack leads Kinetic Vehicles, which has twice built this "Locost" sports car powered by a 1100cc diesel engine. They have raced it multiple times and even won the Escape from Berkeley contest. Although the present vehicle gets only 60 MPGe, they plan a series of mods including aerodynamic improvements which should bump that figure up. Background and Details
- MAX, which stands for "Mother Automotive X-Prize", is a home-built Locost ("Lotus Seven" look-alike).
- Jack McCornack leads Kinetic Vehicles. They sell parts (even compete frames) for Locost vehicles, and if you're willing to pay they will build it for you as well.
- The body of this vehicle is very easy to change - in fact, they had a green one with big front fenders for the Escape from Berkeley contest, and they will have a super streamlined one for the AXP races
- Kinetic Vehicles won Escape From Berkeley, a non-petroleum race from Berkeley to Las Vegas, by bartering T-shirts for veggie oil. They achieved 55 MPG - and won $5k
- Jack writes weekly updates for Mother Earth News, a media organization which is sponsoring the team
- This is actually the second MAX vehicle - the first was totaled in a accident - luckily their insurance covered it!
- They will be racing in the Alternative Class - against stiff competition like Aptera & Tesla
