Two weeks of news today - I took a week off to attend burning man and move to San Francisco. And yes, both are the most awesome things to happen in my life in a long time.

The Automotive X Prize issued a press release stating that there are now over 120 teams signed up in the letter of intent program. We've got updates/news on ZAP, West Philly Hybrid X, Miles Motors, Tesla, Fuel Vapor Tech, HEVT, Kinetic Vehicles, Loremo, Aptera, and Tata Motors. Also some info on the new Honda Insight (pictured), a Chrysler Plug-in Hybrid, Project Better Place, the Chevy Volt, the iMiEV, and some new technology Ford is developing.

Watch Out, X Prize Contestants, These High School Kids Are Winners, featuring the West Philly Hybrid X team. Apparently they are planning to modify a Ford Focus, using a 90 HP Buell motorcycle engine and a 63 HP (peak) AC electric motor. They've really got their stuff together - with lots of previous experience, they may in fact be winners!

How much does it really cost to charge up an EV? Martin Eberhard reports that "it depends", but gives all the things it depends on, and offers a spreadsheet so you can calculate the number for yourself. His results show 3.6 cents/mile, far cheaper than any gasoline car.
