Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies F-150 PHEV
Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies (HEVT) is an early stage startup with IP licensed from a university. They plan to retrofit larger vehicles (pickups, busses, SUVs, etc) into PHEVs. They have somehow secured a supply of large-format NiMH batteries! It seems unlikely to me that they will be competitive in the Automotive X Prize, but if they can get the price down, they will be winners in the marketplace! For more information, check out the new page on the HEVT F-150 PHEV, or read on for the HTML version.

Background and Details
- Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies (HEVT) is a 15 employee startup with technology licensed from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT); they are located in the IIT "University Technology Park" on campus
- Battery is installed behind the seat, the motor is behind the rear wheels
- Offers increased low-speed torque for better towing, onboard 120V outlet, and regenerative braking
- They are working with CalCars
- They are also planning on retrofitting a wide variety of other heavy vehicles: buses, SUVs, RVs, vans, etc. with school buses being the 2nd target after F-150 pickups
- For the Automotive X Prize, they will be Alternative Class, and they plan to add additional batteries until they can achieve 100 MPGe. However, my calculations show this isn't feasible: even all electric, they get only 43 MPGe (roughly triple original F-150, as expected)
