Automotive X Prize News: August 24th, 2008

A fair amount of news this week, including an interview with Shiva Vencat (Zero Pollution Motors), and news on Tesla, CommuterCars, ZAP, Aptera, Cornell AXP, Motive Industries, Venture Vehicles, and some news from the X Prize Foundation. Also, the "real story" of the EV1 (pictured), some news on the Chevy Volt, and a link to the Alt Car Expo.

MDI puts the first AirCar on the road, including a picture of it behind glass. You can hear about that vehicle at EVCast: Interview with Shiva Vencat, which covers lots of ground (Tata Motors, ZPM, Jules Verne, skeptics of compressed air cars, 37,000 people on their announcements list, etc)

Tesla talking about future product plans with Brit magazines, no SUV coming.

100 MPG competition sparks innovation, featuring the Cornell AXP team. They will be showing off their 100 MPG car-in-progess at the New York State Fair.

I found this great article Ode to the Geo Metro, which was published in May, but still has lots of great examples of things people are doing to Geo Metro's to make them more efficient. Including a reference to the Cornell AXP team, and the "aerometro".
