ZAP Alias

There has been lots of news this week about the ZAP Alias, so I figured it was time to make a page. The ZAP Alias is a three-wheeled all-electric sports car. ZAP has partnered with Lotus for development and with China Youngman Automotive Group for production, with a target date of Q2 2009 and a target price of $30k. Background and Details

ZAP stands for “Zero Air Pollution”
ZAP announced this vehicle late 2007 as being a sportier incarnation of their ZAP X Crossover technology
ZAP is working with Lotus for development & design
ZAP has partnered with the China Youngman Automotive Group for production
The joint venture with China Youngman is reviving the old brand “Detroit Electric”; the ZAP Alias will be one of the first new vehicles to sport the old brand
ZAP is taking $5000 deposits on their website
Although it is legally a motorcycle and thus exempt from many safety regulations, ZAP intends to install air bags, seatbelts, roll hoops, and various vehicle safety structures
ZAP planned PML Flightlink motors for the X Crossover as well, but now uses a Chinese source for that vehicle
There is zero information about the batteries - strange...
As with most things ZAP, there is plenty of skepticism, especially around the delivery date of Q2 2009
