Automotive X Prize News: Jan 19th, 2008

News this week includes two pieces about the Air Car, but otherwise focuses on non-x-prize vehicles and companies, like Project Better Place, the Chevy Volt, and a new company called Transonic Combustion which is aiming to make a 100 MPG "demonstrator" by Q3.

MDI Air Car Preps for Market. Tata has invested nearly $30M in MDI. There is some interesting information about how the compressed air engine operates, including detailed range information.

Transonic Combustion 100 MPG Demonstrator Targeted for Q3 2008. Apparently this "advanced fuel injection system" allows vehicles to run on gasoline, diesel and a wide range of bio-renewables, at super high efficiency. Normally I'd dismiss this kind of news as being unconnected with reality, but with Vinod Khosla behind it, you can't just dismiss them out of hand. I guess we will see come Q3 :-)
